Delivering the news to homeowners that they need a concrete driveway replacement isn’t something we enjoy, especially when our reputation as a professional concrete contractor could be impacted, should we not give sound advice. Therefore, we take time to look at all the factors.
What are indications of structural failure?
The time for a driveway replacement might be here if you notice things like extensive deep cracks, sinking or heaving that stands out, potholes, crumbling edges, or consistent drainage issues. These failures in your concrete indicate the concrete as a whole has unfortunately digressed to the point where repairs can no longer mitigate the problem(s).
Does the age of my driveway play a factor?
As with any man-made project exposed to the unpredictable Utah elements, yes, age plays a significant factor. If your driveway is more than 20-30 years old, this should be a consideration when you’re debating between repair and replacement.
Repair v. replacement - what’s best?
Repairs could also work if you’re seeing significantly less damage, like hairline cracks (less than ¼’’), small stains, or discoloration, or isolated potholes. Above and beyond this, we’d recommend full concrete repair. Of course, if you see any indications mentioned previously, unfortunately, repair isn’t going to cut it.
